Fiberglass fly rods are the best choice for beginners. They are durable and considerably less expensive than the alternatives. Most fly fishing rods are made of fiberglass and they perform very well.
 
The actual weight of the fiberglass fly rod will be a little heavier then either the bamboo or graphite fly rod. This weight difference will not typically be noticed buy the novice fly angler though. The fiberglass fly rod also come in a full range of actions from the fast action fly rod to the slow action fly rod there is one to match your style of fly-fishing. While the action is not typically listed on a fly rod it is an important fact to consider.

Rod actions. A slow-action rod bends over most of its length, a medium-action rod starts bending slightly before the midpoint and a fast-action rod bends only in the last one-third of its length.

Although the fiberglass fly rod is less expensive then other types of fly rods it does not mean that they are any less effective. Modern compounds used in their construction make them a very good choice, especially if you are on a tight budget. The fiberglass fly rod can be found in a full range of rod weights. Therefore, whether you are after brook trout or the mighty steelhead or salmon you will find a rod to meet your needs.
