Having a good, quality, fly tying vise is very important if you are going to enjoy the art of tying flies. If you have, a vise that will not hold your hook securely it will not take long before you become frustrated with the process of tying a fly. You may decide that tying flies just is not for you and give up on what I believe is a very relaxing and rewarding hobby.

A cam type vise would be a good choice for you first fly tying vise purchase. The reason I say this is because, if you are just starting out tying flies you often times find yourself adjusting the angle of the hook in the vise so that the tying process is easier for you to accomplish. The cam type fly tying vise will allow you to do this quickly and easily.

Brand names like, Roto-Vise, HMH, Dyna King, and Danvise all make a good quality fly tying vises. Your first fly vise does not have to be one of the top of the line products but try to reframe from some of the lower priced fly vises as they may prove inadequate for the beginning fly tier.
