Sinkers or weights come in many sizes and shapes, which one you use will depend more on where you fish, then any other factor. Some of the sinkers commonly used are the egg sinker, bank sinker, pyramid sinker, and the ball sinker.

The bank sinker may well be the most widely used as the work well on either a gravel or rocky bottom and sandy or muddy bottoms.

The egg and ball sinkers are used where the bottom of the water is covered with rocks or gravel, their round shape helps them stay put among the rock and at the same time will typical pull lose with a quick jerk when you are ready to retrieve your line or a fish strikes.

The pyramid sinkers are preferred where the river bottoms mostly sand or mud their pointed design allows them to dig into the bottom and assist in keeping your bait anchored out in the water.

Just how heavy a weight you use again will depend on whether you want you bait to bounce along the bottom or stay anchored out in a swift current.

It is a good idea to have a good assortment of weights before you head out on the river. Having a assortment will assure you that you have the right weight for the job.
